Sea Ray continues to expand internationally

250 dealer personell from 28 countries attended Brunswick's dealer meeting last week at its Knoxville headquarters. Rob Parmentier, Sea Ray Group president, said that Sea Ray will continue to push its international business with the goal of having a Sea Ray boat in every body of water in the world. "Anywhere you go in the world, we want you to get off the plane and be able to see a Sea Ray in the marina."

Good competitive position
Brunswick chairman Dustan McCoy said that the company has completed a restructuring that leaves it in a good competitive position for market recovery. "In 2009, Parmentier and Brunswick Boat Group president Andrew Graves spent the entire year working to get non-current inventory out of the dealer network and to get the pipeline, by which I mean the number of boats that sit in our dealerships, to record lows," McCoy told the paper. "So we entered 2010 with just a very small number of boats in the pipeline."

Sea Ray still on top
The Sea Ray company has manufacturing plants in China and Poland as well as a network of 400 dealers in 82 countries. In some sales categories one of every three boats sold in the world is a Sea Ray. "Our boat business performs and rises and falls around Sea Ray," McCoy told the paper. "Sea Ray is the centerpiece of our boat business."

Worldwide market proved beneficial
McCoy said the brand has been buffered somewhat by its worldwide market. "If Rob had not undertaken a real push to become global, our ability to employ people and maintain manufacturing facilities here in this region and in Florida would have been diminished," McCoy said.
