The Global Challenge
The Global Challenge - Who takes part?
People who take part in the Global Challenge do indeed come from all walks of life, nationality and experience. However, they all come to the race with the same goal - to have the experience of a lifetime. As team friendships are formed for life and share an experience, which few are privileged to have undertaken.
From 21 to 60
The race is open to people between the ages of 21 and 60 at the time of the race, irrespective of present sailing experience. On the grounds of safety, race participants must not be a liability to themselves or other participants and certain medical conditions preclude application. Applications will occasionally be referred to our Senior Training Skipper and a Fleet Medical Advisor prior to processing.
What is expected of a crew volunteer?
Crew Volunteers are expected to participate in all duties on board the yacht as required during any training and the race including sail handling, sail trimming, helming, watches, galley and general yacht maintenance and upkeep as allocated by the Skipper. A number of corporate hospitality day sails will also have to be undertaken.
The teams
Teams are created as equally as possible, balancing gender, age, sailing ability, nationality, skillsets and occupations.
