New air conditioning unit for cuddy cabins

Dometic Environmental Corporation, the world's market leader in boat air conditioning technology, has unveiled a new super-small cuddy air conditioning unit designed to work with 12 Volt DC power systems.
Nice cool space
"This new 3,500 BTU self-contained air conditioning unit is designed to create a nice cool space to retreat from the hot sun when out fishing or cruising, as well as a cool, dry environment for sleeping, either at the dock or anchor,” said Frank Marciano, president, Dometic Environmental Corporation. "The system is powered by 115 Volt electricity supplied by an inverter and dedicated bank of house batteries. This highly efficient system with a DC-to-AC power converter is competitively priced with 12 Volt air conditioners that do not offer 115 Volt power for other standard household appliances on the boat,” Marciano added. "With this system, the boatowner can enjoy the comforts of air conditioning, as well as the convenience of a microwave oven, coffee maker and other AC appliances.”
Low-profile unit
The compact low-profile unit can easily be installed under a vee-berth or other out-of-the-way location in a cuddy cabin. The complete system, pump included, draws about 30 amps of DC power when running, and will stay on-line continuously underway. "Our engineers tested our system with three Group-27 batteries and measured 8.5 hours of continuous run time without recharging the batteries,” said Marciano. "With a 60 percent duty cycle the system stayed on-line for 15 hours without a recharge.” The cuddy air conditioner will be marketed under the Cruisair and Marine Air brand names to boatbuilders as OEM products and in the aftermarket through Cruisair and Marine Air dealers. The package includes discharge and return-air grills, flexible duct, a seawater pump and simplified two-knob thermostat control.
