A good start with Volkswagen Marine's TDI 225-6

Using the Audi 6-cylinder 3 litre engine Volkswagen Marine has developed the TDI 225-6 with its 225 hp (165 kW) output. The remarkable thing about this vessel is that as well as the amazingly low emissions and running costs it is remarkably quiet at all speeds. Even at full speed the noise levels were at 3 decibels - well under the limits set by the EU authorities.

Weight 25 kg lower than expected
The piezo-electrical control for the injection system, as first seen in some of last year's models, is now being used in the basic versions for the luxury end of the market achieving 5 precise and regular injections per combustion. The weight of the engine without gearing or lubricant comes in at 325kg, some 25kg lower than expected.
