It is well known among sailors in all the continents, it has a good reputation among parliamentarians, diplomats and mariners, it is a festival involving an entire city and year after year it goes on attracting over 3 million visitors to the Land Capital of Schleswig-Holstein.

Nine days of sailing
It's the Kieler Woche, the greatest sailing sporting event in the world and at the same time the biggest summer festival in northern Europe. From 17 to 25 June, KIEL. SAILING CITY will be showing its best side. Nine days of sailing of the very highest standard, nine days of pure maritime atmosphere, nine days of international encounters, nine days of happy and peaceful summer festival in the open air.

International flavour
In her first year of office, Federal Chancellor Angela Merkel is doing the city on the Fiord the honour of opening the 2006 Kieler Woche on the Town Hall Square on Saturday, 17 June at 7:30pm. From then on, politicians and diplomats, scientists and artists, sailors and sportspeople from about 70 nations allow themselves a tryst in the cosmopolitan city on the Fjord. The crème de la crème of sailing is at the starting line in KIEL.SAILING CITY This international flavour and its way of bringing people from different countries together make the Kieler Woche an event which attracts worldwide attention. Partner for the Kieler Woche regattas for many years is the largest water sports trade fair in the world "boot Düsseldorf". The Kieler Woche will further develop its prominent position as a sporting and cultural highlight in the annual calendar of great international events.
