Simrad launches new EPIRB range

Simrad EG50 EPIRB

Simrad Yachting AS has launched a range of EPIRBs (Emergency Position Indicating Radio Beacons) to offer a choice of manual and automatic release versions for professional SOLAS and recreational users.

Activated automatically
The new Simrad EPIRB range comprises of the EP50 and the EG50, which activate automatically on contact with water. Both versions are available with manual (MAN) or automatic (AUTO) release. The EG50 is also fitted with a 16 channel GPS for increased position accuracy of the alert. The small, compact EPIRBs feature audible and visual indication of activation. The 406MHz Distress Alert with 121.5MHz Homing Beacon provides rapid indication to the rescue authorities that the EPIRB has been activated. A two-part bulkhead bracket ensures that it does not accidentally trigger.

Small size for recreational users
A high power strobe light for night time enables immediate recognition by rescue services. An intelligent diagnostic feature tracks battery usage and a user self test facility enables crew to monitor the battery before it reaches a critical minimum level. The specially developed batteries also comply with exemptions for hazardous carriage requirements for Lithium batteries. Most Simrad GMDSS safety electronics are fitted with non-hazardous batteries, which reduces the cost and complexity of transportation. This makes Simrad EPIRBs the best choice for any skipper and because of the small size ideally suited for recreational boaters, in addition to the professional GMDSS users.

Complete safety package provided
Simrad Yachting offers a robust and reliable range of GMDSS electronics, which includes the SA50 SART (Search and Rescue Transponder), the AXIS series of VHF handheld radios and the new EPIRBs. Each product is mandated for all SOLAS vessels to provide a complete safety package comprising of SART, EPIRB, and handheld VHFs.
