Learn to dive the right way

A so-called Dive Medical, a health certificate which is basically an extensive medical exam done by an experienced diving physician, is required for diving.

Taster courses for beginners
You can learn diving at home as well as during your holidays. Dive shops in popular holiday locations offer courses that can teach you to dive in a few days and can be combined with your vacation. Taking a taster course is also a great way to try out diving. Research shows that two thirds of taster course participants are fascinated by the sport and will stick to diving afterwards.

Indoor diving near your home
Taster courses are organised by diving clubs as well as by dive schools and dive shops around the world. During the winter classes are usually held in swimming pools but during the summer months there are classes at beaches, as well. You can also use indoor diving centres near your home, offering attractive underwater worlds to be discovered during your first diving experiences. A great way to start is your local diving club or diving school.

Dive vacations around the world
If you plan to dive during your holidays, you might want to take a dive class beforehand in order to learn the basics. That way you will be able to participate in guided tours right from the start and won’t waste precious vacation time on learning the basics of diving. Look for courses offering diver training leading to the issuing of a "C-card". This certification card is issued by recognized scuba diving instruction organizations, such as PADI or SSI, and usually means the minimum level training required to dive safely. The C-card will be accepted by dive shops around the world.
