Open keel boats
Open keel boats are designed for sporty sailing and do not have a cabin for overnight accommodation.
To keep the weight down and increase freedom of movement, the Six does without a cabin. The pivoting aluminium mast requires neither backstay, main boom nor boomvang. It is best sailed by a crew of three (Outdoor plaza in front of Hall 17).
Small cruisers
Inexpensive small cruisers are very popular, as they offer plenty of sailing fun while occupying little space and, depending on their weight, can be transported over land by trailer.
On board the Sunbeam 24.2 Avantgarde from Austria, the two bunks in the bow are 2.35 m long, while those in the saloon are 2 m in length. That is surprisingly spacious for a 7 m cruiser that can optionally be fitted with either a centreboard or fixed keel. The boat with factory number 1, which is on show here, was manufactured using the fibreglass hand lay-up technique, while vacuum infusion technology is used for series production craft (Hall/stand 16/D53).
Cruising yachts
Cruising yachts offer plenty of comfort for long sea voyages.
For a 33-foot yacht, the Dufour 335 from France is unusually spacious thanks to its large volume and straight stem. The side shrouds are fitted so as not to be in the way when moving towards the foredeck or interfere with a genoa (Hall/stand 16/A38). The C-Yacht 1050 from the Netherlands rounds off the bottom end of this yard’s portfolio. From its centre cockpit you can tackle all of the sails with the greatest of ease. The cabin layout – with a master cabin for two at the aft and a cabin for guests at the front – provides plenty of privacy for two couples (Hall/stand 16/A42). The integrated centreboard of the Allures 45’ (13.98 m) from France, a voluminous aluminium structure, can be lifted like on a dinghy, allowing the draught to be reduced for sailing in shallow waters or even for beaching at low tide, so that the 45's twin rudder ensures that the boat remains upright (Hall/stand 16/D42-B58). Jeanneau (from France) focused on simple and easy operation even for a small crew when developing their new Sun Odyssey series, the 379, 44DS and 509 (Hall/stand 16/B02). Hanse Yachts, from Greifswald, presents the Hanse 415 which makes its world debut here, and the Hanse 385, which makes its first appearance in Düsseldorf (Hall/stand 17/A24). With the Vision series, developed by Farr Yacht Design, Bavaria Yachtbau from Giebelstadt focuses on elegance, comfort and easy handling. The first Vision, a 13.99 m Bavaria 46', celebrates its world debut here (Hall/stand 16/B38). A generously proportioned cockpit with a twin steering wheel and an electrically operated stern platform also add to passenger comfort of the Océanis 48‘ (14.60 m) from the Bénéteau yard in France, as does a transom-mounted traveller track. As an optional extra, the yard also offers the Dock & Go propulsion system, which allows you to manoeuvre sideways with a pivoting saildrive and a bowthruster (Hall/stand 16/B42). The Amel 55’, a successor of the legendary Amel 54’, makes its German debut here. Just like its predecessor, the 55’ is consistently designed so as to ensure that it can be sailed, manoeuvred and maintained by a small crew (Hall/stand 16B58). The Oyster 625 from the UK, an ambitious design by Rob Humphreys, features large windows that flood the saloon with light, and five cabins providing accommodation for ten, making this new yacht ideally suited to chartering (Hall/stand 16/C58).
Cruisers/racers
Cruisers/racers are fast cruising yachts with ambitions as regatta craft. They are popular with anyone who likes to sail faster than the rest.
The Alphena One (8.49 m) from France is a day sailer with a practical forward cabin. It has slim, elegant lines on the metallic hull, a consistent styling concept, flush deck and inviting sofas with high-quality upholstery (Hall/stand 16/D42-B58). The 9.99 m Vector 10 features a decidedly sporty design. It is lean and lanky, with a cockpit that is open abaft, and thanks to the use of the vacuum infusion construction process it weighs in at just 2.6 t. It comes with twin steering wheels as standard – a feature that is still fairly unusual in this class – to ensure that you always have the best possible view of what’s up ahead (Hall/stand 17/A56). The Salona 38’ (11.60 m) from Croatia follows in the footsteps of the slightly shorter 37’. It was designed by the America’s Cup designer Jason Ker – with a clearly laid out deck and a keel designed for optimum performance (Hall/stand 16/D21). X Yachts from Denmark presents the Xp 38’ (11.58 m) and the Xp 44’ (13.29 m) from the Xperformance series, both of which meet the IRC requirements for regattas and sleep six in three cabins as well as providing space for two more on the saloon couch (Hall/stand 16/C22). The Dehler 41’ is a family cruising yacht that is designed to be easy to sail. Through extensive flow analysis and test calculations the design has been optimised for use under both ORCi and IRC regulations for regattas (Hall/stand 17/A24).
Motor sailers
A motor sailer is a combination of a sailing and a motor yacht suited to rather leisurely cruising under sail or motor.
The Haber 34C4 is a gaff cutter with a centreboard, about 12.50 m in length including the bowsprit. Below decks there are aft and forward cabins with 1.96 m headroom and the motor sailer comes fitted with an autopilot as standard (Hall/stand 16/B03).
Multihull boats
Catamarans, with two hulls, and trimarans with three are referred to as multihull boats.
The Astus 20.2 trimaran has a small cabin in the main hull. Between the main hull and the two outrigger hulls there are two 4 m2 trampolines, which serve as seating and sunbathing areas. The telescopic outriggers are retractable for overland transportation, reducing the transport width to just 2.40 m. Only once it is in the water does the boat unfold to its full sailing width of 4.25 m (Hall/stand 15/A58.1).
