Sailing and relaxing in Schilksee
In the year 2003 the Kieler Woche (21st to 29th June) takes place for the 121st time, and the Kiel fjord will see more than 5,000 sailors from about 50 nations taking part in this event. The first part of the Kieler Woche has been the site for the International classes for years. Altogether 15 international classes will start from June 21st to 24th. Due to the rotation every year, the Melges 24 is a new entry and will sail for the German Open during the Kieler Woche. The regattas of the Olympic classes, sailed by European and even world champions, will take place from June 25th to 29th. Every year the list of entries resembles more and more the "Who's Who" of sailing.
About 260 boats are expected in the offshore sector (June 21st to 29th). The "Kiel-Cup" is extended to four days for the first time (Monday till Thursday), the "Senatspreis" changes to Friday and the long distance race "Fehmarn Rund" put off until Saturday/Sunday. The International German Championship of the IMS class is included for the fourth time. The meeting point for sailors is Schilksee, some kilometres north of Kiel, where the "Olympic Village" hosts most of the sailors. Here one can talk casually to World Champions and Olympic Champions, experience the tension in the air before racing and watch the professional sailors taking off. Part of the Kieler Woche and worth watching are the great fireworks in Schilksee on Tuesday, June 24th. Enjoy pure sailing atmosphere in Schilksee!
