Big innovations by a small Austrian shipyard

UIM, the world governing party for all Powerboating activities, has bestowed the
prestigious Environmental Award for the second time. The Frauscher shipyard
with his excellent innovations for eco-friendly propulsion systems is one of the winners. The comparably small shipyard takes a leading position in international innovations.
In the year 2009 UIM (Union Internationale Motonautique) has launched the UIM
Environmental Award. The main objective for this prize is to inspire manufacturers
of powerboats to push the development of eco-friendly technologies. Constant
innovation is a key success factor of the company, who calls itself a traditionally
innovative boat builder for more than 80 years.
UIM honors Frauscher with a Special Mention for the development of the world’s
first serial hybrid propulsion and the first emission-free fuel-cell propulsion for powerboats. The hybrid propulsion was presented to the global public in 2008, followed by the introduction of the Future Project Hydrogen, the next world novelty
in pleasure craft propulsion, in 2009. Further developments in electric propulsion
with the goal of reducing energy consumption and increase the range of
electric boats at the same time lead to the first nomination of an electric yacht, the Frauscher 650 Alassio, for the European Powerboat of the Year Award in
2011.
The award ceremony will be held at the annual UIM Awards Giving Gala with more than 400 VIP guests from 25 different nations on Saturday, February 11th
2012 at Salle des Etoiles in Monaco.

Winner without a prize

The fifth consecutive nomination for the Frauscher shipyard - this time for the Frauscher
1017 GT, the new flagship the Frauscher range - was a big surprise and an
international honor for the innovative boat builders from Austria. The key factor behind
this success is the already proverbial Frauscher quality in design, craftsmanship
and driving characteristics. Unfortunately winning the award for the second time was
narrowly missed. But Frauscher succeeded again in establishing the small Austrian
shipyard in the leading group of European boat builders.
The disappointment was kept within limits, because nobody really expected a win for
the Frauscher 1017 GT. Even the nomination of the 1017 GT by the experts had
been contrary to the latest trends favoring cheaply produced boats for the mass
market like the other nominees in the category till 35 ft.
The nomination was already a great success for the Frauscher shipyard. This reinforces
the aspiration to build the best pleasure boats in the world. The company also
sees a confirmation of the new strategy: building models designed for the ocean,
strengthening the brand with even more emotions and finding the courage to develop
innovative boats with extraordinary designs.
The introduction of the Frauscher 1017 GT heralds a new era in the history of Frauscher.
The birth of the engineers of emotions. The target to create a gentlemen’s
racer which lives up to this claim was even without the recent award winning immediately
fulfilled. All in all a great object of desire, created by the “engineers of emotions”
and leaving hardly any wishes unrealized.
