Armor Boat : the shipyard

The principles of Armor Boat

ARMOR BOAT was created to develop, build and sell innovative, recreational motor boats based on three principles:

- comfortable cruising
- economic operation
- quality of construction and respect for the environment

« Since the trip is going to be uncomfortable and noisy anyway, let’s get there as quickly as possible » .
This seems to be the principle behind the design of most recent motor boats.

The RANGE BOAT and the NANTUCKET were designed with the spirit of sailing in mind, for those who take pleasure in being on the water either for a day or for a cruise of several hundred miles.

The semi-planing hull of the RANGE BOAT was conceived to give its passengers maximum comfort at a cruising speed of between 12 and 15 knots even if a maximum speed of over 20 knots can easily be reached.

At a cruising speed of 13 knots and fully loaded the RANGE BOAT consumes, with the Nanni 200 hp Common Rail Turbo Diesel engine, only 13 litres an hour which represents between a half and a third of what similar boats would consume.

Rechearch and development

Since the boat shows that took place in September 2009 all Range Boats can now be equipped with a Diesel / Electric Hybrid propulsion system.

All the efforts made by both the architect, Nigel IRENS, and the shipyard concerning the production process have resulted in the reduction of noise and vibration and the use of high-tech materials ensures a safe and robust construction for the long term.

The internationally renowned English architect, NIGEL IRENS, has designed some of the most famous 60 foot multi-hulls, such as BISCUITS LA TRINITAINE, SERGIO TACHINNI, BAYER CROP, FUJIFILM …., but also the motor-powered trimaran, CABLE AND WIRELESS, holder of the world record for circumnavigation of the globe by a motor-powered vessel.

The hulls of the RANGE BOAT are made of a vacuum injected sandwich construction of balsa/epoxy which is then heat-treated. This is not only an environmentally friendly process, it also guarantees a structural resistance of the material that has nothing in common with mass-produced boats coming off the line today.

The development of the process for injecting the hull lead to a donation from the Technological Development Network in 2006 (PRDT managed by OSEO and the Regional Council of Brittany).
